NCD Academy is an initiative by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) that aims to provide virtual education to clinicians for free, emulating the benefits of in-person training. To meet the needs of patients, health systems need to invest in upskilling and supporting front line health workers, as there is a shortage of subspecialists and even general practitioners in many countries.<br /><br />The target audience for NCD Academy includes community doctors, internists, nurses, and community health workers. The courses offered cover various topics related to cardiovascular disease and stroke prevention, including healthy lifestyle promotion, risk stratification, lipids management, diabetes, blood pressure management, and stroke etiologies.<br /><br />The course catalog consists of both core courses focusing on the "Big 5" NCDs (cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, and mental health) and supplemental courses in partnership with the World Heart Federation and NCD Alliance. The education provided reinforces ongoing recommendations, teaches new guidelines, cultivates understanding of the interplays between major NCDs, educates providers on the risks of transmissible illnesses for NCD patients, and builds soft skills.<br /><br />Participants can earn certificates and digital badges by completing the final exam, which is CME accredited in a growing list of countries.<br /><br />To join NCD Academy and access the courses, clinicians can visit the website ncacademy.acc.org or use the hashtag #NCDAcademy on social media.
