Course Description
In In 2017, 544.9 million individuals worldwide had a chronic respiratory disease (CRDs), and in 2019, 262.4 million people had asthma, and 380 million people, that is, 11% of the world’s adult population, had chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). It is clear that on a global level, chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs), are among the leading causes of morbidity, morality, and disability-adjusted life years due to persistent symptoms and intermittent exacerbations requiring acute care, leading to significant economic and societal burdens. Through this NCD Academy course there is the opportunity to learn more about the impact of CRDs, as well as learning new skills to prevent, diagnose and manage some of the most burdensome chronic respiratory diseases.

Course Topics: Developed in partnership with the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) this course will cover the prevalence and risk factors for chronic respiratory diseases in the community and the need for primary care physicians (PCPs) to intervene. Through interactive patient cases learners will engage with content ranging from practical tools to prevention, diagnosis and manage CRDs. This course will cover CRDs such as asthma, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, bronchiectasis, and obstructive sleep apnea.
