Mental Health Care Increasing Awareness, Erasing Stigmas

Mental health issues take a significant toll on the people they affect and those around them. In fact, serious mental disorders have been shown to reduce life expectancy by as many as 25 years. Improving early intervention and access to treatment at the primary care level has been recognized by global health actors including the World Health Organization (WHO) as critical to achieving universal coverage of essential health services. This requires that primary care providers learn and integrate strategies to identify, assess, and support patients experiencing psychological distress into routine practice.

Course Topics: Developed in partnership with the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), this course uses interactive patient cases to model and explain practical tools and conversational techniques to screen, diagnose, and treat patients dealing with a range of common mental health concerns. Lessons cover five domains including major depressive disorders, substance use, memory disorders, psychosexual disorders, and trauma.
