Description
Reducing the global burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) depends on frontline health workers who are empowered and equipped to manage risk factors in patients. NCD Academy aims to address this need through education on the group of NCDs that place the greatest burden on mortality and morbidity, starting with cardiovascular disease (CVD) given its rank as the leading cause of death.
Course Topics: This ACC course in Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke Prevention covers essential knowledge for assessing risk, as well as lifestyle behaviors and pharmaceutical therapies that are recommended to reduce risk in patients. Learners will explore strategies to tailor care depending on the patient’s unique risk profile, including treatment for patients with hypertension and guidelines for managing cardiovascular risk in individuals with diabetes. Through future courses, the ACC aims to tackle the remaining “Big 5” NCDs: cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, and mental health disorders.
